While KDE offers a nice graphical desktop that you'll probably want to spend most of your time in, you can also use Unix/Linux commands if you are accustomed to that (or wish to learn).

KDE provides a sophisticated terminal window called the "Konsole". Choose Application Starter > Terminals > Terminal to start it.
